External dryness relates to the autumn season. Dryness consumes body fluids causing dry skin, dry lips, dry nose, dry throat, constipation, etc. Dryness enters the body through the skin, nose and mouth. As the nose and the mouth are the orifices of the Lung, a long term stay in a dry environment may impair the Lungs. Symptoms include dry cough and dry sputum.
The antidote to dryness is moisture. Foods that moisten dryness are eggs, cheese, milk, and sugar (in small amounts!). Raw fruits and vegetables also have a moistening effect on the body. All these foods should not be consumed excessively or in long term as they may accumulate internal dampness.
